Flux funds new hockey tops for Dunbar Grammar

DGS Hockey Flux sponsorship

Dunbar Grammar’s hockey team are sporting new uniforms thanks to a donation from a local independent business.

Local businesswoman Bea Taylor of ‘Flux’, an independent gift shop on Dunbar High Street, has generously sponsored new hockey tops for the girl’s hockey teams at Dunbar Grammar School.

She said: “Sport was a very important part of my formative years as a teenager: being fit, playing outside and being part of a team helped to keep my feet on the ground! I’m delighted to be able to encourage Dunbar girls into sport by feeling good in their new kit.”

Currently there are over 50 girls playing hockey at Dunbar Grammar over S1-S4. The teams train weekly on a Monday night and play in local, regional and national fixtures. With the school’s logo recently changed, and following feedback from the players, it was felt it was a good time to update the uniforms. The tops mirror the school colours of navy while retaining a hint of green along with the new DGS logo and FLUX logo on the sleeve. The response from the girls has been very positive to wearing the new more modern kit, reinforcing a sense of team pride and belonging at no cost to players or the school.

“Sport is so important for fitness, social and mental wellbeing as well as helping with school attainment” said Scott Marnoch the Active Schools Co-Ordinator for Dunbar. “This is part of a drive by the school to encourage more girls to participate and remain in sport throughout their teenage years and beyond. It’s fantastic that Bea who runs a local community business has supported the girls like this. We’re grateful for her donation and her support for the team.”
