Monday 15 June: schools and services to remain open

At its meeting today 24 February 2026, East Lothian Council considered the Scottish Government’s announcement of a national bank holiday on Monday 15 June 2026 to mark Scotland’s participation in the Men’s World Cup Finals.

After reviewing the implications, Council agreed not to designate this date as an additional public holiday or award an additional day of annual leave for employees.

This decision reflects the significant costs associated with granting an additional public holiday or additional leave day and the financial challenges facing our organisation.

All of our services will therefore operate as normal on Monday 15 June 2026.
