Be a mentor!
Are you interested in becoming part of our successful Mentoring Programme?
This is a tailored partnership in which the mentor (selected from East Lothian departments or external businesses) helps a young person to achieve their personal best and accomplish the results they desire.
The role of the mentor is to encourage and support an individual to solve their own problems and some of the benefits pupils will experience from having a coach include
- Increased motivation, commitment and determination.
- Improvement in decision making.
- Clarification of goals and objectives.
- Assistance in planning the ‘road ahead’.
- Help in understanding themselves better.
- Improved ability to deal with change.
- Increased confidence and self reliance.
- Building ability to cope with situations.
- Improved self worth.
Mentoring can benefit all young people at every level of ability from the most driven and academic to those who need more direction. The young person will be from S3 to S6 and preparing for the transition from school to a positive destination. As a mentor you will meet with the young person approximately once a month for one hour, generally in school.
